Concert of Notable Italian Opera Excerpts to Take Place at Hanoi Opera House

In this gala, the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet will perform two famous opera excerpts: La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini. The event will also include other classic Italian opera excerpts, resulting in a total of 19 opera performances.

La Traviata tells the story of a young man, Alfredo Germont, from a powerful family in Provence, who falls in love with a rich prostitute named Violetta ValĂ©ry. However, their love affair is hindered by Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, who wants to protect his family’s reputation. This leads to misunderstanding, conflict, and ultimately, tragedy. The gala will feature enchanting performances of Aria: “Ah fors’e lui che l’anima” by soprano artist Dao To Loan and Duet: “Parigi o cara” depicting the reunion of Alfredo and Violetta, sung by guest artists Kim Yeo Won and Truong Linh.

La Boheme is set in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1840s and portrays the lives of young bohemians. During the gala, the audience will enjoy the mesmerizing performance of Aria: “Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi” by Bui Trang and Duet: “O soave Fanciula” performed by Tran Trang and Thanh Binh.

Paradiso Dell’opera will feature a lineup of talented soloists, including To Loan, Tran Trang, Bui Trang, Lan Nhung, Huy Duc, Thanh Binh, Anh Vu, Truong Linh, and Kieu Tham. The gala will also showcase the exceptional talent of soprano artist Kim Yeo Won from the Republic of Korea. The artists will be accompanied by live music conducted by Dong Quang Vinh, with the participation of the Hanoi Voices Choir.

This Opera Gala program aims to demonstrate the endless possibilities of innovation and vibrancy in this art form through a unique combination of different works.

Opera originated from the Italian aristocracy’s desire for entertainment in Florence, Italy, during the late 16th century. It combines music and theater, featuring singers, choirs, orchestras, ballet, and acting. Opera serves as a medium to expose social realities, represent the struggles of the working class, and convey the burning desire for liberation. Additionally, it portrays intense love between couples, friendships, maternal affection, and love for the motherland and country.
