Vietnamese Students Win 2022 ASEAN Student Contest on Information and Technology

Overcoming 19 other teams from universities and academies of seven ASEAN countries, UIT.pawf3ct – the team consisting of four students from the University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) triumphed in the final round of the 2022 ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security.

ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security (ASCIS) is “Capture the Flag” contest for students from higher-education institutions in ASEAN (up to four students from the same institution shall form a team).

The contest has been held annually in Vietnam for the last 15 years, and this is the fourth third year it was held among ASEAN nations.

The contest is an important activity of the annual event “Vietnam Information Security Day” organized by the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA) in collaboration with the Information Technology Department under the Ministry of Education and Training and the Information Security Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

It encourages students to study and cultivate practical and team-working skills. It also aims at fostering cultural and academic exchanges among information security students in ASEAN.

The final round was held on November 5, in Hanoi, with the participation of 20 teams with high achievements in the preliminary round, including 10 teams from Vietnam and 10 teams from 6 other ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Thailand.

Vietnamese teams compete online in Hanoi, ASEAN teams participate entirely online under the supervision of the Jury through a camera system connected to the video conferencing platform.

This is the third time Vietnamese teams have won the contest. Last year, the student team from the University of Technology under the Hanoi National University won first prize.

Previously, the preliminary round was held on October 15 with 112 participating teams divided into three groups. The team with the highest score in the Preliminary Round (team KMA.L3N0V0 of the Academy of Cryptographic Engineering) was introduced by the Vietnam Information Security Association to the Ministry of Information and Communications to participate in the Cyber ​​SEA Game 2022 in Thailand on November 10.
